Symptoms of Autism:
- Impairment
in social interactions as evidenced by lack of eye contact, few facial
expressions, few friends, lack of showing or pointing to desired objects,
not laughing when others laugh or smiling when others smile
- Impairment
in communication as evidenced by delay or total lack of spoken language,
inability to hold a conversation with others, use of stereotyped,
repetitive phrases, echolalia
- Evidence
of stereotypes behaviors such as a preoccupation with one type of object
or part of object (i.e. wheels of a toy car), repetitive motor mannerisms
(i.e. hand flapping), routine oriented and cannot break a routine once
established
